Mahmoud Basiri, a well-known actor in cinema and television, recognized for his humor in popular Iranian series, is currently living away from studios and cameras in a corner of Tehran. With his usual humor and energy, he criticized the quality of television programs, saying: "No one watches television for me to act!"

Criticism of Television and Incompetent Directors

In a candid interview, Basiri discussed today's media landscape in Iran and his distance from television. He emphasized that it is not out of reluctance, but due to the lack of skilled writers, directors, and managers, that he has distanced himself from television. According to him, today's television only delivers crying and lamenting to the people, which does not alleviate their pain.

He criticized the entry of incompetent individuals into the world of television, stating: "Anyone who has arrived has become a director. Some presenters make you sick just by looking at them, and you can't even bear to watch them." Basiri pointed out that television's work should be spiritual and intellectual nourishment for the people, adding: "Television's work has only become crying and lamenting, and this does not cure the people's pain."

Daily Life and Artistic Memories

This veteran actor mentioned that he lives alone and that his sister's children occasionally come to visit him. He also talked about his love for cycling and the coffee shop he frequents. Basiri stated that the traditional food shop at the end of his street has become his spiritual nourishment and referred to it as one of the pleasures of his life.

Recalling his collaborations with great directors like Ali Hatami and Shapur Gharib, he expressed his love and passion for art, reminiscing about how great directors created value not only for themselves but for society as well. Basiri expressed hope that one day he would again witness high-quality programs and artistic works on television.

In the end, this actor said: "I feel for the people. I wish to see them happy. Perhaps I can also have a share in something that people love; their spiritual and intellectual nourishment."
