Mahdi Taj, the President of the Football Federation of Iran, recently stated that this federation no longer has any debt to the Social Security Investment Company (Shasta). This news comes following the financial settlement of the Football Federation with Shasta and indicates the end of one of the most significant financial cases of this entity.
History of Debt and Settlements
The issue of the Football Federation's debt to Marc Wilmots, the former Belgian national team coach, had become one of the major challenges for this entity. In this context, the Football Federation borrowed two million euros from Shasta to pay part of this debt. This debt led to many controversies and even resulted in the seizure of the Football Federation's building and the Persepolis Club.
However, Mahdi Taj, upon returning to the Football Federation, paid an amount of 25 billion tomans to Shasta, which was equivalent to the Federation's principal debt to this company. In addition, Taj added another one billion tomans as compensation to this amount, bringing the total payment to 26 billion tomans and moving the debt case with Shasta towards closure.
Ownership of Buildings and the Financial Future of Iranian Football
Taj continued his explanations by referring to the ownership status of two buildings of the Football Federation and the Persepolis Club, stating: "The ownership of the Football Federation's building and the Persepolis Club has returned to the desired status." This point reflects the Federation's efforts to improve the financial and legal conditions of its entities.
He also reported the existence of nearly 5 trillion tomans in claims of Iranian football with the International Football Federation (FIFA) and emphasized the pursuit of these claims. This amount could play a significant role in strengthening Iranian football and improving the financial situation of the Federation.
Mahdi Taj's efforts and his management team's work in the Football Federation of Iran demonstrate a serious determination to solve financial problems and create better conditions for the country's football. With the resolution of the debt issues with Shasta and the return of ownership of the buildings, hopes for a brighter future for Iranian football have increased.
