Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, in his latest statements addressed the issue of negotiations with Ukraine and announced that Moscow is ready to seriously engage in peace talks. However, he emphasized that the special military operation will not be halted during this time.
Military and Diplomatic Progress
Lavrov clarified during his press conference that Russia is seeking to create a suitable environment for negotiations, but cannot overlook its military activities under the current circumstances. He added: "We are looking for peaceful solutions, but at the same time, we must defend our national interests. Military operations will continue until the conditions change in our favor."
These statements come as tensions between Moscow and Kyiv have significantly escalated, and both sides have yet to come close to a lasting agreement. Lavrov also referred to the role of countries involved in the developments in Ukraine, stating that some of these countries are seeking to undermine Russia's position.
Challenges Ahead for Negotiations
The Russian Foreign Minister also expressed concern about the challenges facing negotiations, saying: "We hope that the Ukrainian side will also join these dialogues, but it must be acknowledged that there are many obstacles. On the other hand, we must ensure that we preserve our interests in this process."
Despite these statements, political analysts believe that any agreement in the near future will require fundamental changes in the positions of both sides as well as international pressures. While Russia seeks to stabilize its position in Ukraine, Ukraine consistently emphasizes its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
