A large military convoy consisting of dozens of vehicles and trucks carrying military equipment exited Al-Harir Air Base located in Erbil on Sunday. This exit is part of preparations for the end of the U.S. military presence in Iraq by September 30, and special security measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of this operation.
Security Measures and Monitoring of the Convoy's Movement
The convoy's exit, which included trucks and metal containers, was accompanied by helicopter flights. This convoy moved from Al-Harir Base towards the axes of Nineveh and Kirkuk and was monitored on the main roads. As we approach the final deadline for the completion of the exit of American forces, the pace of convoy movements from Al-Harir Air Base may accelerate in the coming days.
Continuation of the Exit Process for American Forces
A U.S. military official recently announced that the process of withdrawing American military forces from Iraq is ongoing and is expected to conclude by September 30. The official also added that hundreds of remaining troops in northern Iraq will be transferred to Jordan and other countries in the region.
According to reports, after the completion of this process, Washington and Baghdad may negotiate a new agreement for bilateral security cooperation. The head of the Iraqi Security Information Center has also emphasized that the exit of international coalition forces from Iraq will not cause concern for Baghdad, as Iraqi institutions and security forces have the necessary capabilities to maintain security and stability in the country.
Security Coordination and Efforts to Stabilize the Situation
Saad Ma'an, head of the Iraqi Security Information Center, emphasized the capabilities of Iraqi institutions and security forces, pointing to complete security coordination between federal forces and the Peshmerga. He stated that a high-level security meeting with the presence of senior security commanders from both sides has been held in Baghdad.
This meeting addressed common security issues, particularly border security, information exchange, and combating smuggling and infiltration. The agreements reached in this session could serve as a turning point in the level of security coordination between Baghdad's government forces and the Peshmerga.
Saad Ma'an emphasized that the situation is under control and stated that the agreements reached can help strengthen cooperation and security coordination in Iraq and lead to the establishment of a joint security system.
