Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has proposed tough conditions for holding a meeting with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, amid rising tensions in relations with the United States and South Korea. Despite Trump's willingness to resume negotiations, Pyongyang appears unwilling to engage in talks without preconditions, including the lifting of sanctions.
North Korea's Reluctance for Diplomacy
Reports indicate that the likelihood of a meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un this year has significantly decreased. Trump, who met with Kim three times during his first term, is eager to restart negotiations with North Korea, but Pyongyang has shown little interest in diplomacy aimed at curbing its nuclear program.

A South Korean official familiar with the matter has stated that Pyongyang has not taken any actions indicating readiness to meet with Trump. Meanwhile, North Korean state media have referred to the tough conditions set for this meeting, stating that these conditions will include the lifting of sanctions.
South Korea Proposes Military Talks
Meanwhile, the South Korean Ministry of Defense has once again proposed holding military talks with Pyongyang amid escalating border tensions. This proposal comes after a landmine explosion in the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas and aims to agree on the precise location of the land border between the two Koreas and reduce the risk of unintended conflicts.
Border tensions between the two Koreas have increased due to military activities and new constructions near the border line. Pyongyang has denied claims of ceasefire violations by Seoul and attributed the tense situation at the borders to South Korea's "reckless and impulsive" military activities.
Given these circumstances, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's efforts to resume talks with North Korea and reduce military tensions on the peninsula are facing serious challenges.
