He stated, "It is our duty to adapt ourselves right now so that the joint force is ready to fight, endure, and win in competitive global environments." These remarks reflect the serious determination of the U.S. Army to adapt to modern challenges.
New Challenges on the Battlefield
Keen pointed out that the modern battlefield is changing, asserting that future conflicts will eliminate long-held assumptions about unrivaled logistics and safe zones. He emphasized that frontline formations must assume they are "being hunted by autonomous systems" and are being tracked in real-time. These changes necessitate rapid and effective adaptation within military forces.

Advantages of Future Battles
According to Keen, in future battles, the advantage will go to the side that can "see first, understand first, decide first, and act first." He urged the joint force to achieve agility and optimization in operations by utilizing "a combination of high and low combat capabilities." This approach could significantly impact the reduction of mass casualties on the battlefield.
These warnings came after a disclosure on Monday by Troy Mink, the Secretary of the Air Force, confirming that the United States Space Force has space control weapons in orbit. These weapons are capable of defending joint forces against hostile actions and are considered the first official acknowledgment of armed U.S. platforms in orbit. This occurs amid escalating orbital competition with China and Russia and the development of the "Iron Dome" missile defense network.
China has strongly condemned the U.S. deployment and stated its opposition to turning outer space into a "war zone." It has also called on Washington to halt military enhancements in orbit. While the 1967 Outer Space Treaty prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction in orbit, it does not explicitly prohibit conventional weapons in space.
Keen also introduced digital independence as a key catalyst for changing the dynamics of modern warfare, stating, "No factor accelerates change as quickly as artificial intelligence and advancements in cyber capabilities." He added, "Artificial intelligence is here now and is changing how armies see, sense, decide, and act." This highlights the importance of new technologies in shaping the future of battles and military strategies.
