J.D. Vance, the U.S. representative, has directly engaged in indirect negotiations with Iran. These negotiations, aimed at achieving a new ceasefire and resuming nuclear talks, have been actively ongoing for the past two weeks. Vance, who has recently taken on the responsibility of leading diplomatic efforts, indicates that he is personally seeking to extricate the United States from a conflict that he believes is a key factor in the Republican Party's heavy losses in the recent elections.
Progress in Negotiations
Vance's active participation has elevated the level of discussions to the highest echelons of government. In this regard, he is in almost daily contact with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, and General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, regarding negotiations with Iran. Additionally, Steve Wietkaf, the White House envoy, and Jared Kushner, advisor and son-in-law of President Trump, are also involved in this process.

It is reported that Vance and Qatari and Pakistani mediators have discussed the possibility of holding a technical meeting at the expert level between the United States and Iran in the coming days, although this meeting has not yet materialized. On the other hand, the Vice President's office has declined to comment on this matter.
Challenges and Opportunities
Before the war began in late February, Vance was one of the main critics of this war among Trump’s close circle and instead called for a diplomatic solution. He led the U.S. negotiating team at the April meeting in Islamabad and participated in discussions that led to a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran in June. He also headed the American delegation during a period of direct negotiations with Iran in Switzerland.
J.D. Vance stated on Wednesday that the war was the main reason for the Republican losses in the elections. Informed sources from the mediation efforts claimed that although progress has been made, the process remains very slow. The Prime Minister of Qatar stated, "In the past few weeks, we have collaborated with our counterparts in the U.S. government." He also added that talks with the Trump administration have continued after the midterm elections, but have not been as active as in the days prior, as they have been occupied with other issues.
