Ali Falih al-Zaydi, the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Iraq, today (Saturday) made a controversial decision to agree to the Islamic Republic of Iran's request for a joint investigation regarding the discovery of drone launch pads near the border of Iraq and Saudi Arabia. This action, due to the existing tensions in the region, especially in the oil and energy sector, could have significant consequences.

Joint Investigations; A Step Towards Cooperation or More Tension?

This decision comes at a time when tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, particularly in security and military fields, are on the rise. Iran's request for a joint investigation reflects Tehran's willingness to cooperate with Baghdad in securing the borders. However, this cooperation could be interpreted as a tool to strengthen Iran's influence in Iraq and also increase pressure on Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, this action could pave the way for strengthening Iran and Iraq's relations in military and security areas, which in turn could provoke negative reactions from other countries, especially Saudi Arabia. Experts believe that this investigation could serve as an opportunity for Iran to exert pressure on Saudi Arabia in international and regional arenas.

Regional Implications

Iraq, as a key country in the Middle East, has always attracted the attention of major regional and global powers. Now, with this new cooperation, the political and security equations in the region may be completely transformed. This agreement could be seen as a turning point in Iran and Iraq's relations and also influential on the security of the Persian Gulf.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen what results this joint investigation will bring and whether it will lead to a reduction in tensions or, conversely, an increase. Given the complex situation in the Middle East, this issue remains at the forefront of analysts' and politicians' attention.
