Iran's national volleyball team has joined the ranks of 32 major teams in the world for the 2027 World Cup, following a decision by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). This competition, hosted by Poland, will be recognized for the first time as the "FIVB World Volleyball Cup." The name change reflects transformations in the structure of the competitions that began in 2025.

The tournament will take place in September 2027, with teams competing in groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. Following the group stage, the competition will continue through the Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and ultimately the medal matches.
Iran's National Volleyball Team and the 2028 Olympics Path
Iran's national volleyball team secured one of the three Asian slots for the 2027 World Cup by finishing as the runner-up in the 2026 Men's Asian Championship in Fukuoka. Japan and South Korea will also represent Asia in this tournament. This participation is significant not only for the pursuit of the world championship title but also as one of the qualifying paths for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The top three teams in this tournament that have not previously secured an Olympic berth will earn the right to participate in the Olympics. Thus, Iran's national volleyball team will compete in this major arena with the goal of securing one of these titles and qualifying for the Olympics.
The 2027 World Cup serves as an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Iran's national volleyball team and representatives from other countries. Given the new changes, this edition of the tournament could be considered a turning point in the history of volleyball in Iran.
