Hamed Yazdimehr, head of the Crisis Management Center of Tehran Province, announced predictions from the Meteorological Organization regarding the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon, indicating the possibility of heavy rains in the near future. This phenomenon, which typically occurs every 3 to 7 years in the country, can have serious consequences for citizens.
Preventive Measures Are Essential
Yazdimehr pointed out the necessity of taking preventive measures, stating: "Service officials and the public must take the necessary actions in this regard to prevent unfortunate incidents." He added: "The Meteorological Organization provides information about the amount of rainfall and its occurrence points, but these predictions are approximate and cannot be relied upon with certainty."

Flooding and Flash Floods Are Expected
The head of the Crisis Management Center of Tehran Province identified one of the potential consequences of this phenomenon as flooding and flash floods, stating: "The complete readiness of agencies and public awareness of safety tips is very important." He also referred to the effective role of the national media, especially radio, in educating and guiding the public, emphasizing that this action can be very effective in controlling the situation.
Yazdimehr mentioned the specific responsibilities of service agencies, stating: "Regional water companies must clean and dredge the paths and rivers leading to urban settlements." He also emphasized the role of municipalities in preventing water accumulation and its backflow into citizens' homes and access roads.
He noted: "Holding meetings of the headquarters and drills to cope with flooding has been on the agenda for months, and our assessments indicate the agencies' good preparedness." Yazdimehr also urged the public to avoid using personal vehicles during rainfall and to use public transportation instead.
According to him, the risk of flooding depends on the location of areas, soil type, and land slope, and in some cases, even light rains can have dangerous consequences. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the occurrence of severe incidents nationwide is rare due to its vastness, and rainfall in many areas can enhance the country's water reserves.
