Hakan Fidan, Turkey's Foreign Minister, emphasized the importance of ending wars and economic disputes as soon as possible during the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting in Atlanta, USA. In a statement, he announced that the continuation of the current situation could lead to serious damage to the global economy.
Consequences of War and Economic Crisis
During this meeting, Fidan referred to the complex dimensions of the economic impacts caused by wars and said: "We live in a world where the global economy is highly interconnected, and calculating the full dimensions of these impacts is becoming increasingly difficult day by day." The Turkish Foreign Minister, referring to the situation of European industries that have long benefited from cheap Russian energy, continued: "The collapse of these economic ties has widespread consequences, and this increasing economic pressure must come to an end."
The Necessity of an Agreement for Peace
Fidan also urged Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement to end their nearly five-year war. He warned that this war has inflicted enormous damage on the global economy and poses a risk of escalating tensions in the region. He stated: "Ignoring the economic and social costs of this war, especially for European countries, is becoming increasingly difficult day by day."
This Turkish minister emphasized that the continuation of wars is no longer feasible and urged the parties to reach a sustainable agreement. He also highlighted the importance of improving relations between Russia and Europe, stating that this action could help create a positive environment for diplomacy.
Fidan expressed concern about disruptions in commercial shipping in the Black Sea and noted that shipments of grains and energy from Russia and Ukraine cannot easily reach international markets. He said: "Food security is a very important issue, and this situation must end as soon as possible."
The Turkish Foreign Minister also announced that his country continues its intensive diplomatic contacts and extensive efforts to facilitate the transfer of grains from the Black Sea to international markets. These efforts could help alleviate some of the economic and social problems caused by the war and lead to an improvement in the global situation.
