Fuad Hussein, the Foreign Minister of Iraq, in an important meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, addressed the current challenges in Iraq and regional developments. This meeting, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and discussing strategic issues, emphasized key topics such as the pilgrimage of Shiites to Najaf and U.S. efforts to limit Iran's influence in the region.

The Pilgrimage of Shiites to Najaf and Its Consequences

In this meeting, Fuad Hussein emphasized the importance of the pilgrimage of Shiites to Najaf and the role of this city in Shiite culture and religion. Najaf, as one of the important religious centers in Iraq, has always attracted Shiites from around the world, and these pilgrimages can help strengthen cultural and religious connections among Shiites. The Foreign Minister of Iraq also pointed to Najaf's significant role in consolidating unity among Shiites and stressed that religious trips should be conducted safely and with consideration of security conditions.

Countering Iran's Influence and Disarming Armed Groups

Another focus of discussion in this meeting was the U.S. claim of attempting to stop the Iranian regime through policies known as economic isolation. Fuad Hussein explained to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury that Iraq, as an independent country, needs to maintain good relations with its neighbors while also being committed to preserving internal security and stability. In this context, discussions about disarming armed groups linked to Iran were also raised. The Foreign Minister of Iraq emphasized the necessity of international cooperation to prevent any violence that could benefit instability in the region.

At the end of this meeting, Fuad Hussein and Steven Mnuchin emphasized the continuation of cooperation in various economic and security fields and stressed the need to strengthen relations between the two countries to achieve sustainable stability in Iraq and the region.
