Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, made important statements about the Iran-U.S. war and its global and economic impacts at a student meeting in Marsberg. He pointed out the complexities of this war and the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, emphasizing that the U.S. strategy for exiting this crisis is still unclear, making it more difficult to end the dispute.

Economic and Political Challenges of the War

Merz referred to the economic problems arising from the Iran-U.S. war, stating that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has serious negative impacts on the global economy. He emphasized that the war is currently severely affecting the German economy as well, raising serious concerns. The Chancellor of Germany also mentioned the negotiation skills of the Iranians, saying, "The Iranians clearly negotiate skillfully and are stronger than we had imagined."

Lack of a Clear Strategy from the United States

Merz noted that the government of Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, entered this war without any clear strategy. This lack of a plan and strategy makes it significantly more difficult to end the dispute. He raised the question of what kind of strategy the United States is actually pursuing to exit this situation and added, "It is clear that the Iranians are stronger than expected, and it is also evident that the Americans do not have a truly convincing negotiation strategy."

These statements from the Chancellor of Germany reflect the challenges facing the global community in the face of this war. He also referred to the bitter experience of the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq, stating, "We painfully experienced this reality during our 20 years in Afghanistan; we have witnessed the same issue in Iraq as well."

Friedrich Merz ultimately added that there is currently no strategic option for exiting this crisis, and this issue becomes more evident, especially considering the negotiation skills of the Iranians. He emphasized that there is a strong need for a clear and effective strategy to exit this situation, and this responsibility lies with the international community.
