The spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry reacted to the claim of transferring the country's land to Afghanistan in a press conference, describing it as a misunderstanding arising from the statements of one of the members of parliament. He emphasized that no land transfer to any other country is possible and that what has been raised is merely a procedure for cooperation with landlocked countries.
Clarifying the Misunderstanding
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated in this meeting: "This was indeed a clear misunderstanding that arose from the comments of one of the respected members of parliament." Providing Access to the Sea
Amir-Abdollahian explained that the main issue is cooperation with landlocked countries that do not have access to open waters. He continued: "In all parts of the world, we have utilized this possibility and will continue to do so in the future; this is to provide facilities in the form of leasing to countries that are landlocked and do not have access to open waters." These statements have been presented as a solution to facilitate trade and maritime communications with these countries.
Consequences of the Statements
These statements come at a time when some media outlets and social media users had seriously raised the claim of transferring land to Afghanistan, which had created concerns among the public. However, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson clarified that such an issue is not possible and that Iran always respects its national sovereignty.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation, stating: "We are seeking to develop relations with neighbors and other countries, but these cooperations will pose no threat to Iran's national sovereignty." These statements reflect Iran's approach to managing foreign relations and countering rumors.
