The fire in the Strait of Hormuz occurred on Friday, February 28 (March 9) and resulted in the rescue of 25 crew members of the tanker 'Riti'. The Omani Navy announced this news, stating that the crew was evacuated after the fire on the tanker. This tanker, flying the Panama flag, encountered an accident while passing through disputed waters.

Details of the 'Riti' Tanker Incident

The Omani Maritime Security Center reported that the crew of the 'Riti' tanker was safely evacuated and received medical assistance after the fire and targeting of the vessel. The 'Riti' tanker is known as a crude oil carrier and according to reports, the incident occurred due to negligence in responding to radio warnings and turning off navigation systems.

Explosion of Super Tankers and Security Concerns

According to the public relations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, two other tankers also experienced accidents and fires in the eastern and western parts of the Strait of Hormuz. These vessels illegally passed through designated routes and encountered explosions and fires after hitting naval mines. The Revolutionary Guard also announced that a super tanker carrying over two million barrels of oil exploded at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz.

It remains unclear whether the rescued tanker off the coast of Oman was one of these three vessels. These developments come as Iran has imposed restrictions on the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on March 9, demanding coordination of vessels with its military forces.

International Reactions and Consequences

International reactions to these incidents indicate serious concerns about maritime security and its impact on the global oil market. The United States has also pressured its ports in response to Iran's restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in the region. This situation not only affects global trade but could also lead to rising oil prices and instability in global markets.

Given the recent developments, the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the main focal points of international crises, and there is a need for diplomatic approaches to reduce tensions and maintain maritime security.
