Fereydoun Jirani, a prominent director and screenwriter, will soon be honored in a special event. This program is organized by the Directors Guild of Cinema in Iran and continues the 'Classics of the Guild' series, featuring the screening and discussion of the film 'Red', which is considered one of Jirani's notable works.
A Look Back at the Film 'Red'
The film 'Red', made in the late 1990s, is recognized as one of the enduring films of Iranian cinema. Directed by Fereydoun Jirani, it holds a special place in cinema history due to its captivating story and powerful performances. Jirani explains about the making of this film: "In 1996, at the suggestion of Gholamreza Mousavi, I decided to make this film. Initially, I intended to create a romantic comedy, but the political and cultural conditions of the country led me to write the screenplay for 'Red'."

He also justifies the choice of the name 'Red' because it has few syllables and seems unique. Jirani adds: "Khosrow Haritash told me that the film's name should be special, and I have paid attention to this point since then."
Actors and Challenges
The film 'Red' features performances by Hediyeh Tehrani, Mohammad Reza Forutan, Kamand Amir-Soleimani, and other well-known actors, and won two Crystal Simorghs for Best Actor at the 17th Fajr Film Festival for Hediyeh Tehrani and Mohammad Reza Forutan. Interestingly, these two actors were not the first choices for the lead roles.
Fereydoun Jirani states: "The lead role was supposed to go to Khosrow Shakibaei, but he refused to collaborate due to the failure of my previous film. Additionally, Abolhassan Pourarab and Laya Zanganeh also withdrew from the film for various reasons. Ultimately, Gholamreza Mousavi suggested that we use young actors."
Amir Hayai also mentioned in an interview that he was supposed to play his first leading role in 'Red', but he withdrew due to his emotional state.
The tribute program for Fereydoun Jirani and the screening of the film 'Red' will be held on Saturday, November 7th, at 5 PM in the Cinematograph Hall of the Cinema Museum. The poster design for this event is by Behzad Khorshidi.
