Elon Musk recently announced that the U.S. government may be responsible for the restrictions affecting the speed of some Ukrainian weapons and disrupting their connection to SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet network.

The Role of Starlink in Ukraine's Operations

Starlink is a vital tool for Ukraine, allowing the country to guide its drones to Russian targets and defend its airspace. However, Ukraine complained on Tuesday night about unexpected speed restrictions that, according to officials, have affected their military operations.

Reactions from Zelensky and His Advisors

One of the advisors to Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, believes that these restrictions are not coincidental and are related to recent tensions between Kyiv and Washington. Zelensky expressed hope in media interviews that this issue would be resolved soon and has requested Ukrainian officials to restore the connection to Starlink.

Musk also clearly stated on the social media platform X that the Starshield service, which is related to Starlink, is under U.S. government control, and any restrictions on speed or usage are determined by the U.S. military and ultimately its President.

According to Mykhailo Fedorov, the former Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the connection has been partially restored by Wednesday evening, and he called for the complete removal of Starshield's speed restrictions, which are vital for Ukraine's defense. Musk also emphasized in response to this request that Starlink is intended for civilian or defensive activities and cannot be used for offensive military operations.

Meanwhile, following recent Russian attacks on Ukraine, which resulted in several deaths in Kyiv, speed restrictions were imposed. Zelensky described these attacks as "one of the largest assaults" by Russia and stated that communication and energy facilities used by the Ukrainian military were targeted in these attacks.

Given the tensions and challenges ahead, while Zelensky received a warm welcome from British officials during his visit to London, he still needs international support to stand against Russian threats.
