Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on Friday, November 6 (Aban 15), the appointment of Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff. Miller, 41, is one of Trump’s closest and most loyal advisors who has remained by his side throughout both of his presidential terms. In the second term, Miller served as Deputy Chief of Staff, and his influence extended beyond his official title.
Immigration Policies and Criticism
The name Stephen Miller is most closely associated with Trump’s immigration policies. He has been the architect of plans such as targeting the detention of three thousand immigrants per day and deploying agents to immigrant neighborhoods. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, only 36% of Americans approve of these policies, while 54% oppose them.

Miller has also been behind the dismissal of tens of thousands of government employees, attacks on universities, and diversity programs, as well as the restructuring of the federal bureaucracy. According to Mark Short, the White House Director of Legislative Affairs, Miller’s appointment indicates that he is "one with Trump" and ready to battle Congress over immigration issues and parliamentary investigations.
Democrats' Reaction and Future Policies
Democrats, who now control both houses of Congress, have reacted strongly to Miller's appointment. Robert Garcia, the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, emphasizes that the Democratic Party will scrutinize Miller’s policies and that he should "get a lawyer."
A White House official told Reuters that this appointment sends a clear message: "Trump does not intend to reconsider his policies." Miller has also been a staunch supporter of U.S. and Israeli military attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran and has defended sanctions as a tool to weaken Tehran.
Stephen Miller is the fourth person Trump has appointed as his Chief of Staff, and each time this position has changed, observers have predicted that Trump is adjusting his course. However, this time it seems that Trump, by appointing Miller, is moving not towards moderation, but towards more aggressively implementing his political agenda.
