Rainfall on the roads of 12 provinces of the country has led to the closure of the Karaj-Chalus road and Tehran-North Freeway. Brigadier General Siavash Mohibi, head of the Traffic Police of the Faraaja Police, announced the closure of these routes from 04:00 AM today, November 12, and emphasized that traffic in both directions is not possible.

Measures for Road Safety

Brigadier General Mohibi, referring to the efforts made to reopen these routes, said: "From the very first moments of the incident, traffic police officers along with road maintenance teams have been present at the scene and have begun clearing the path of mud and falling rocks." He emphasized that both routes will remain closed until complete clearance and assurance of safe traffic. Additionally, the reopening of these routes is contingent upon the completion of safety operations.

The head of the Traffic Police of the Faraaja Police warned travelers intending to travel to the northern provinces of the country, saying: "Given the closure of the Chalus road and Tehran-North Freeway, drivers should use alternative routes such as Haraz, Firouzkuh, and Qazvin-Rasht."

Safety Instructions for Drivers

Brigadier General Mohibi also urged drivers to adhere to safe speeds and maintain appropriate following distances in adverse weather conditions. He added that before starting their journey, drivers should ensure the heating system of their vehicle is functioning properly and that the windshield wipers are operational. According to him, travelers should avoid unnecessary trips if possible and check the latest road conditions from official sources before setting out.

Brigadier General Mohibi further mentioned the reopening of the old Karaj-Chalus road after 5 hours of closure, stating: "This route is now open for two-way traffic." He urged drivers to proceed with caution while adhering to traffic regulations and paying attention to the recommendations of traffic police officers.

Colonel Gholinia, head of the Information and Traffic Control Center of the Faraaja Traffic Police, also referred to the latest weather and traffic conditions on the country's connecting roads. He stated that scattered rainfall has been reported in some roads of Ardabil, Alborz, Qom, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Qazvin, Zanjan, Kurdistan, Gilan, Markazi, and Mazandaran provinces.

Colonel Gholinia, in another part of his remarks, referred to the traffic conditions on the roads, saying: "Traffic on the Qazvin-Karaj Freeway in the vicinity of Abik, between Shahid Kalantari Terminal and Kolak Bridge, and in the vicinity of Vardavard, as well as on the Saveh-Tehran Freeway and the Shahriar-Tehran road is semi-heavy in most sections."

He also emphasized the necessity of exercising caution in unstable weather conditions, urging drivers to maintain safe speeds and increase their following distance due to slippery road surfaces. He ultimately stressed that drivers should check the latest weather and traffic conditions before starting their journey and avoid traveling on closed routes.
