America's attacks on Qeshm Island have occurred amidst signs of progress in indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, raising hopes for an end to months of tension. According to American officials, these attacks were in response to Iran's shooting at an American aircraft.

Contradictory Atmosphere in Washington

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, clearly stated in an interview with Fox News that there is a possibility of reaching an agreement with Tehran. However, he also emphasized that if negotiations fail, conflicts could escalate to a more severe stage. This contradictory atmosphere, especially as oil prices are falling, reflects the disagreements in Washington and the concerns of America's Arab allies regarding the consequences of a new war.

Trump, criticizing the nuclear agreement from Barack Obama's era, claimed that America's attacks have destroyed a significant portion of Iran's nuclear and military capabilities. He attempted to describe the current situation as a shift from full-scale war to a "very mild war" and stated that America is negotiating from a "position of strength."

Disagreements Among American Officials

Reports indicate that within Trump's administration, there are three different approaches. JD Vance, the Vice President, and Steve Witkoff, his special envoy, advocate for continuing negotiations and reaching an agreement. In contrast, Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, supports military options. Amid these disagreements, JD Vance has reported progress in negotiations and optimism regarding an agreement, while Trump always considers both military and non-military options available.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a conversation with Trump, called for new military attacks on Iran immediately after the U.S. midterm elections, but Trump insists that he wants to give more opportunity to diplomatic efforts before making any decisions.

Regional Concerns and Falling Oil Prices

Concerns among Arab countries about a new war have increased, especially regarding the security of energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the region, which have been threatened in recent months. According to reports, regional governments are preparing for the potential consequences of a new round of military attacks on Iran.

The decline in global oil prices following increased hopes for an agreement between Iran and the U.S. has also become a significant topic of the day. Brent crude oil prices fell by 7.6% to about $104.77 per barrel. This decrease reflects the global markets' reaction to diplomatic developments and negotiation efforts to reduce tensions.

Despite this drop, oil prices remain above pre-war levels, and concerns about the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the continuity of oil exports from the Persian Gulf persist. These developments are particularly significant for the Trump administration in the midterm congressional elections, as rising gasoline prices and energy costs have become a major point of criticism for Democrats.
