Alireza Nadali, the spokesperson of the Islamic Council of the City of Tehran, in a recent interview with Hamshahri TV, elaborated on the performance of urban management and the challenges it has faced over the past five years. He highlighted the importance of representing national identity in cultural and social fields and discussed various supportive plans.
Free Public Transportation
One of the major challenges for the City Council was the decision-making regarding the provision of free public transportation (metro and rapid buses) during times of war and insecurity. This decision was made to create a safe and comfortable environment for citizens against attacks from the Zionist regime and the United States. Nadali mentioned the repeated extensions of this plan and stated that despite differing opinions within the council, efforts were made to get this plan approved.

Stabilizing the Prices of Essential Goods and Citizens' Livelihoods
The urban management is also implementing a plan to stabilize the prices of essential goods in collaboration with the Fruit and Vegetable Organization and Shahrvand stores. This plan aims to eliminate middlemen and shorten the distribution chain from producer to consumer, especially in difficult economic conditions. Nadali emphasized the importance of synergy among agencies to solve livelihood issues.
He also discussed the naming of new streets after the country's luminaries and martyrs of the war, stating that this process is carried out with care and consideration of social attachments. Nadali added, "We must utilize consultations from the Office of the Supreme Leader for naming to align with the country's macro priorities."
In response to political criticisms, Nadali emphasized that the metro, as a public infrastructure, must become a safe and hygienic environment for citizens in times of insecurity. He also referred to the urban management's efforts to comfort citizens freed in the Emirates, considering it a symbol of Basij thought and jihadist management.
Furthermore, Nadali pointed out the necessity of representing Iranian-Islamic identity in international festivals, stating that every film showcased at global festivals represents the people of Iran. He stressed that this should be done with pride and in the context of the victimization and heroism of the people.
Overall, the assessment of urban management performance over a five-year period shows that construction projects have progressed without any interruption, which is considered an acceptable score for the municipality during this challenging period.
