Ali Babaei Karanami, the head of the Social Committee of the Parliament, emphasized the need to adjust the salaries and wages of government employees in an interview with reporters and announced that this increase must be realized by the end of the current year. He added that there is no need for a new bill from the government to the Parliament for this purpose, and the government and the Planning and Budget Organization are obliged to implement the special law for government employees.
Details of the Salary Increase for Government Employees
Babaei Karanami further referred to the benefits anticipated in the special law for government employees and said: "According to this law, between 2,000 to 22,000 points must be added for government employees. The government has initially applied 2,000 points, and the remainder, which amounts to 7 to 20 million tomans, is currently outstanding." Challenges in Implementing the Law
The head of the Social Committee of the Parliament expressed concern about the government's and the Planning and Budget Organization's performance, criticizing the government's non-compliance with the implementation of this law. He said: "The government must implement the law, and one of the current problems in the country is the avoidance of law and arbitrary action in enforcing laws." He also referred to the letters and reminders from the Parliament to the government for the implementation of the special law for employees and stated: "The Planning and Budget Organization must not refrain from fulfilling its legal obligations."
Babaei Karanami further added: "The Planning and Budget Organization should not reduce or increase the budget of a project based on its own discretion. A lack of resources and budget deficits cannot justify ignoring legal obligations." He also explained that necessary reminders have been given to the officials of the Planning and Budget Organization, and correspondence and follow-ups are ongoing.
He concluded by saying: "We expect these reminders to yield results and for the government to take action to fulfill its legal obligations." Given this situation, government employees hope that their requests will soon be met and that the economic conditions will improve.
