Alireza Abdoli achieved gold in the final of the 77 kg Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2026 Asian Games, showcasing an outstanding performance against Nao Kozaka, the 2024 Olympic champion from Japan. This victory is considered a significant achievement not only for Abdoli but for the entire Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team.

Abdoli's Path to Success

Abdoli started this competition with a bye in the first round and then won 8-0 against Suliman from Indonesia in the second round. In the semifinals, he again won with a similar score (8-0) against Shahin Badaghi, an Iranian wrestler from Qatar, and advanced to the final. At this stage, he confidently executed extraordinary techniques to defeat Nao Kozaka 5-3, bringing another honor to Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling.

Challenges and Competitions

In this round of competitions, Sajjad Abbaspour also competed in the 60 kg weight class. He faced Suzuki from Japan in the bronze medal match and, despite leading 4-0, lost 7 points due to physical decline in the second period and was defeated 7-4. This result prevented Abbaspour from reaching the bronze medal.

Previously, Abbaspour reached the semifinals by winning 5-3 against Hong Tan from China in the first round and 1-1 against Sumit from India in the second round. However, at that stage, he lost 7-4 to Alisher Ganiev, the silver medalist from Uzbekistan, and went to the bronze medal match.

Iran's Last Representative and Ongoing Competitions

Continuing on the final day of Greco-Roman wrestling, Mehdi Bali, Iran's last representative in this competition, will face Islam Oloviev from Kazakhstan in the bronze medal match of the 97 kg weight class. Earlier, on the first day of this competition, Amin Mirzazadeh won a gold medal in the 130 kg weight class, but Mohammad Javad Rezaei in the 67 kg weight class and Gholamreza Farakhi in the 87 kg weight class were eliminated after losing to their opponents.

This round of competitions reflects the determination and commitment of Iranian wrestlers to achieve success in international arenas, and Abdoli's victory in the final can provide more hope and motivation for other representatives of Iran.
